6 ways to save money while renovating

This is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.

Life is expensive, especially when you add in cars, a house, kids, and of course, a husband (halfway kidding, ha!). It seems like something always comes up – we spend a lot of money on a car problem right before we have plans to do something that we want to do. Thankfully, there are ways to do the things that you want to do, while still fixing the things that just come up and throw off your plans. We save for unexpected problems, we save for things we want to do, and we try to save money when we can, without skimping on anything. One huge money pit for a lot of people is home renovations. Renovations can take a huge chunk of money out of your pocket, but luckily there are a few easy ways to save money and still get exactly what you have always dreamed of. Here are my best tips on ways to save money while renovating your house.

  • Countertops

Pinterest and home improvement blogs and magazines are filled with gorgeous white marble countertops, but those are pricey and hard to maintain, especially with kids. There are a few ways that you can save money on your countertops. My first idea is to spend more money to save more money in the future. Take time and research the type of material that you are installing in your home. For example, according to Hanwha Surfaces, natural quartz is nonporous, anti-bacterial, durable, stain-resistant, scratch-resistant and heat-resistant. That is a durable surface that will save you money in the future when you do not have to replace your marble countertops after they have become stained. Another option to save money on your countertops is by choosing a material that is a more affordable option, like laminate. I saw this post by Joy where she replaced her countertops for only $250 when she used to laminate and they look great! This is a great option for those that want to save more money now vs. later and on top of that, the laminate is really easy to maintain.

  • Renovate to last

This goes hand in hand with my above paragraph. You have the option to save money now vs. later or spend more now to save money later. Obviously, the best scenario would be saving now and not having to spend more money later, so when you are renovating, try to find deals like that. You will save money in the long run by choosing styles that won’t get ‘old’ or tired. For example, if you are in a phase of bright colors, try incorporating that into the walls that are easy to re-paint instead of your furniture that would cost a pretty penny to replace once you grew out of the style. Choose styles that always come back into style. An example of this right now is the white backsplash. This will always be in style!

  • Paint

Paint is a great way to spruce up your home and the good thing about it is that it is not extremely expensive and you can do it yourself (most of the time). DIY projects like paint are great when you want to save money while getting exactly what you want out of your renovation. Choose your paint color and get to work!

  • Do your own demo

A lot of companies will let you do your own demo. This is great because it is a huge money saving trick. Demo work is hard and dirty, which is why companies charge so much for it. If they can come in and just install their materials, it saves them time and work, which saves you money. Plus, if you demo a shower or a floor on your own, you will feel like superwoman!

  • Statements

Who wants a boring home? Choose fun accents to place throughout your home to make it look like it is worth more. The great thing about this is that you don’t have to spend copious amounts of money to do this. An example of this is brick. Brick is a great addition and if you place it in the right spots inside, it can definitely increase the value of your home. The bad thing about brick is that typically, it is extremely expensive to build, which is why finding an alternative option is a great way to add it into your home. Located in Clearwater Florida, Faux Brickwork provides exceptional authentic looking brickwork for luxury homes, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, offices, and retailers. They use the highest quality of versatile materials to ensure that you receive the look and feel that you are wanting without the need for expensive and timely renovations. The high quality, Faux brick panels are made from plaster to make it look authentic while staying extremely lightweight in order to make installation quick and easy.

On their website, Facebook, or Twitter, you can find more information about their wide range of Faux brick panels that are offered, and if you do not find exactly what you’re looking for, they also have a design service for custom made ideas. There are definitely ways to incorporate high-quality statements and accents into your home without spending a lot of money, or taking up too much time – you just have to find great deals like Faux Brickwork.

  • Choose what is important to you

The most important thing when it comes to renovations is choosing what is important to you. Renovate only what you find important and really want because if you do not like it, you will end up spending more money on renovating again in a few years (or purchasing a new house).
