Welcome to Wild Florida, Orlando’s only destination for Airboat & Wildlife Experience.
If you’re planning a vacation to Orlando Florida soon, you must stop and visit Wild Florida.
This one of a kind experience will take you on a fun adventure through the calmness waters of Lake Cypress as you speed through marshes, swamps on an airboat tour ride. You get to view how incredible the wildlife and nature really is here in Wild Florida.
As you glide through over 100,000 acres of wetlands, you’ll get a closer look on what was and what still remains, as the natural beauty of Florida. Your eco-tour brings you up close with alligators, exotic birds including eagles, beautiful landscapes, and trees. That is only half of your experience. Included in your reservation you will also visit their Wildlife Park which is home to many animals, mammals and reptiles.
Wild Florida is located in Kenansville, Florida which is just a short 45 minute drive from the Orlando and Disney areas. Wild Florida has been known for years as one of most popular airboat tour companies in Central Florida. The fact: many visitors love the interaction they receive from the highly trained captains that drive these boats.
On my visit, I had Captain Dennis and he was full of in -depth knowledge and his years of experience and professionalism was shown.
Once checked in at your reservation time, you and your group will enter the waiting area. This covered seating area will hold the riders for upcoming airboat tours.
Each group name will be called separately accordingly to their airboat duration time. I honestly thought this was great since we had enough time to enjoy the beautiful landscape and picture perfect views.
After our name was called, we walked through the covered wooden walk ways to reach our dock and meet Captain Dennis then boarded our airboat.
These U.S. Coast Guard approved captains and their boats can hold up to 17 people which still makes it a comfortable ride for all to enjoy. Behind every seat you will find a pair of headphones to place on your head. This will help reduce the sound of noise from the airboat running.
So off we go, isn’t this view picture perfect. I mean, there is totally nothing around us other than what mother nature has placed. The views are like no other! Once we arrived and glided around the marsh lands, my eyes grew big just like a kid on Christmas day. I couldn’t believe what I have been missing living here in Florida. It’s amazing how busy our life becomes that we don’t make enough time to enjoy what’s around us.
Throughout our airboat tour, we seen many different types of birds and many of them were Whooping Cranes. These guys loved floating around with no care in the world. Just basking the Florida sun in these protected swamps and marshes.
Did you know that these swamps, marshes and rivers is what makes up the Central Florida Everglades?
They sure do!
We also seen many birds flying around. I didn’t catch the name of them but some came in packs of tens. I was in pure amazement how fast they flew and even how, faster they tried to zip out of the water. It was exciting for my children to see these birds of wildlife so close to our boat.
Believe it or not, this open sky freshwater lake, has alligators. It was told that over 1,000 alligators call Lake Cypress their home. During the months of spring and specially in summer, many alligators spend most of their time under the water. It’s because of the hot Florida sun. Occasionally you will see a few poke their head out of the water in which we did but unfortunately they were super fast to capture a photo opp.
Our 30 minute tour of zooming in and out of these marsh areas was one to remember. I will honestly say, being on the boat felt amazing. It truly did not feel that I was going fast. Even for my 6 year old daughter, who is not a fan of boats really enjoyed herself. I do recommend if you plan on wearing a hat to place the headphones on your head over your hat. This will keep it from flying away.
For those who are afraid of boats or perhaps believe that they are not great swimmers, you will be happy to know that there is life jackets for you or your children to use.
The Wildlife and Nature Park was a joy to walk through. Nothing amazes me more than observing wildlife. My family thinks the same.
By walking through the Wildlife Park, you will observe many different types of animals from all over the world which includes reptiles and mammals. Each exhibit transforms to its very own pavilion which is dedicate to each of the animals needs. This Wildlife Park is home to tropical birds, deers, lemurs, alligators, emu, zebras and many more.
Nothing says more about paradise than a peacock. These free to roam pheasants are known for their beautiful colors of blues and greens. This guy was perching perfectly so I had to snap a photo. I did get pretty close to him and he also let me know that he had enough of my paparazzi skills. He made this loud noise and that was my cue to go but look how beautiful his train is. Gorgeous Right?
I will say, walking through the Wild Park seemed that we had the whole place to ourselves. It wasn’t crowded nor did I feel pushed or rushed to finish an exhibit just because someone else wanted to look. Everyone was spaced apart which gave me and my family all the room and leisure we needed.
We came across a pavilion full of ducks. These were not your ordinary ducks you see swimming in a pond these beauties were Hooded Merganser Ducks. They were absolutely beautiful. I never seen colors of ducks with red and orange. They were so unique for a swaddling duck.
Hey look at me! These tropical parrots were just hanging around under a brown grass umbrella. Honestly, the were like twins. When one did something the other follow suit. It was remarkable to watch them. Not to mention astounding to look at.
Can you say swamp? Yes, I can. I actually loved walking over the green moss swampy water. This really is a Florida Cypress Swamp. By walking on the Hawk Swamp Boardwalk you will learn so much about Florida’s Cypress Swamp Ecosystem. There are signs of bewares and trust me you do want to stay alert when strolling through. It’s only a 5 to 10 minute walk through but it’s mind- boggling that your only inches away from the wildlife of nature.
After gazing the Hawk Swamp we decided to check out more exhibits. We came to the Owl and say hey we give a “hoot” haha I guess it’s an insiders joke but this fella was napping and we didn’t want to scare him. I mean owls do need their rest specially after a night “hootin”.
When I say the Wild Park has exhibits, I mean it. They have over 20 plus an alligator demonstration, show and more!
A few of my favorite were the Africa Safari, Seminole Village, Ringtail Lemur, Zedonk, Cockatoo, and several many others.
Yes, you are seeing this correctly. This horse/zebra is called a Zedonk. What a amazing exotic breed and look for this animal. When we arrived at this exhibit our heads were sideways and saying hmm? Well it looks like a zebra? It’s a pretty cool combination and very eye catching because it’s rare.
It’s so rare that many people will never get a chance to see them up close only in photos or documentaries. Many are found in mostly zoos or nature where it would be easier for these to mate.
These guys were so friendly I mean they loved our attention. They are known as Ringtail Lemurs and yes they come from Madagascar just like the movie. We stood in front of the cage and walked back n forth watching them interact and play with the ball hanging from the ceiling. It was gosh darn cute how they rolled and jumped around.
Next we were off to see some wild baby boar. Yes, they are so cute but don’t think twice. These babies will grow up to be some really mean boars. I’m guessing, it’s because their vulnerably of attacks from animals like jungle cats, snow leopards and lynxs.
Let’s talk about the Africa exhibit. There are tons of pavilions with animals that are endangered or threatened. To actually see them in person totally “Wow” me and my family.
One of highlights of our visit was talking to these guys right here. These Cockatoo birds were actually talking to us. We happen to walk up and said oh hi and within seconds they were mimicking us. My family all took a step back and said no way, Did that bird just talk to us? We actually thought we were hearing things until I said “Does Polly want a cracker” and behold yes Polly wants a cracker and more. I couldn’t believe it. Now I am not sure if this happens regularly but I was totally not expecting it.
I still can’t believe that I had a conversation with a bird.
At the end of our exhibit tour of Wild Park we came across a Serval. If you never heard of it, well let’s just say these medium sized African Wild Cats have the longest legs of any cat of their size.
I guess after having a fantastic day at Wild Florida, it requires a little “cat” nap. So I don’t blame him or her one bit.
Overall, Wild Florida is a pleasurable Orlando attraction for the young or old. Considering that my visit only took four hours to see and experience everything we wanted, it was wonderful timing. We were able to return home just in time for dinner and prepare my children for bed.
The airboat tour was such an unique experience. Allowing my family to endure in Florida’s nature for the very first time was breathtaking to watch.
The Wild Florida Airboat tours are a must for those who like to view nature in a close range. They cater to singles, couples, families and groups.
Walking around the Wild Park and Hawk Swamp was quite impressive. Being apart of it all and still feel your in the middle of no where, is tranquil and peaceful.
All the animals, mammals and reptiles we saw were very well taken care of.
It was an unbelievable experience and one my family & I will remember for years to come.
While visiting Wild Florida, take a break and have some lunch at the Chomp House Grill. They are serving up the best BBQ along with some of their favorite meals from the swamp.
Before you leave, head to the gift shop to pick up a few souvenirs. It’s a great way to remember your visit of living on the edge and being wild about Wild Florida.
