As my family and I were getting ready for our trip back home for Thanksgiving, I spoke to my mother. As you all know, my mom has stage 4 cancer and is not doing well. She began to tell me how her elderly neighbors were so concerned for her. They often stop by her apartment just to make sure she is ok. Even some have sent her I’m “thinking of you” cards in the mail. Since I was heading back home to spend some time with my mom and family during Thanksgiving, I thought of a way to show some of her neighbors how we appreciate them by baking them some delicious cookies.
So when I was shopping at Publix before our road trip, I picked up Betty Crocker’s cookie mixture. I knew it would be the perfect way to share some Holiday Cookie cheer -Plus thank them for always thinking of my mom. I grabbed a few packages of Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip and Sugar Cookie mix and then asked my daughter who loves to bake, to help. She knows that her Nana is not well and was super excited to thank the neighbors in our own special way.
Giving back by making some delicious cookies might be a simple gesture but who doesn’t love a yummy cookie during the Holiday season. I know that we do. It certainly is a great way to gift during the Holiday season too!
My daughter and I came up with a conclusion that making a gift basket full of baked cookies then leaving it near the residents doors would be perfect during our visit. Along with Betty Crocker™ cookie mix, I picked up a few baskets and festive Holiday fabric napkins to make our cookie gifting perfect.
My daughter is just like her mom, she loves to bake. She is always following me in the kitchen to see what’s baking and is always so eager to help. So when we talked about making Betty Crocker’s™ Chocolate Chip, Sugar and Peanut Butter cookies she was totally in.
After our cookies were made, we decided to wrap them up in clear Holiday wrap. This way, these cookie gifts can be seen without unwrapping them. I’ll tell ya, when we arrived at my mom’s and she seen what we made for her friends and neighbors, she was so happy that we did.
Me and my daughter both walked around my mother’s apartment complex to deliver these yummy cookies to her neighbors. Many of them weren’t home due to it being Thanksgiving but some were and they couldn’t believe how thoughtful it was that we made these yummy cookies for them. If it brings smiles, it’s rewarding. Baking cookies during the Holidays reminds me when I was little with my mom. I always looked forward to the season and spending time with her and now I can do the same with my own daughter.
