6 Things To Keep The Kids Happy on a Plane

6 Things To Keep The Kids Happy on a

Sometimes keeping things simple does the trick and can make a world of difference. Here are 6 things that I bring to keep the kids entertained on a plane.

Ear Plugs or Headphones

Kids that are nervous of flying will enjoy less noise as possible. So wearing headphones or ear plugs certainly will help. Blocking out that loud airport noise and having a pair on hand for those on flight movies comes in handy.

Books or Cross Word Puzzles

One of things that I’ve learned about flying with my children was keeping them entertained. Passing the time away and keeping them busy is important.  Grab a few new books and some cross word puzzles and they will love it! My kids love new surprises.

Portable Electronics

Having a tablet on hand allows them to play their favorite education games or watch a movie. (Of course on airplane mode). My kids also use their i-Pads to listen to music.

Picking up their favorite snacks from the airport before boarding your plane has also helped me. Sometimes, I’ll also grab some crackers from home to help with upset stomachs.  My kids can be picky eaters so having a nice snack that they can enjoy certainly helps.

Small Blanket or Pillow

Usually we jet out early and the kids get tired. It’s nice to have a small soft blanket for them to use while napping.

Bring Something Special from Home

Believe it or not, kids get home sick so having their favorite toy in your carrying on bag gives them some comfort and having less anxiety.

What are some of your favorite things to take on a plane when you travel?

I always take books with me when I go on a plane. It makes the trip go so quickly. When my kids were little and we flew, we took their stuffed animals and some toys to pass the time.

No offense if I can avoid flying I do. I do not like how my legs feels from being cramped up and not being able to move them as often as i need to. However, I think you have a great list of things for kids to do while flying.

Seriously, what did we do without portable dvd players and iPhones when we were growing up?! We used to fly across the country to visit my dad a few times a year as kids and now my nephews won't even go for a 2 hour flight without there own pre-chosen movies on individual screens!

A source of entertainment is a big importance, nothing more boring than just sitting in the plane with nothing to do! Even for myself it can be tough.

These are great ideas! I know that a movie for us always works. Depends on the length of flight.

I wish tablets were more popular when we traveled on plane. I don't really remember what we did to occupy our kids when we were on a plane.

I'm an expert at travelling with kids, lol! We have flown to Italy every summer since the kids were born! What always worked for me were sticker books...and snacks!!! This year we'll be able to keep them entertained with some books and electronics!

I personally can't imagine flying with my kids. If you get one of my kids excited, then the other two jump on board. (It's like the domino effect.) These are all very important things to keep in mind and use when you are traveling.

Snacks and a computer are a must when travelling with kids. I always made sure to bring a comfort toy from home for the kids to have.

This is a good list. When we have emergency hospital trips I get so worried I forget my head at home. I may just print out this list and put it with my hospital paperwork. Next time we go - I can just open it and follow instructions.

These are excellent tips. I think having headphones is a wonderful idea. You can use it with a tablet or music player.

I have never been on a plane but you pretty much summed up what I use to keep my kids happy... My oldest loves Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.
  • Kori Tomelden

Snacks, a tablet, and a familiar object like a pillow or blanket from their bed always helps. Especially snacks since kids don't have the concept of time on a plane and because snacks are pricey or hard to come by.

I don't go anywhere without snacks! This time I packed our iPad and coloring books, they definitely behaved much better!
  • Carin Kilby Clark

YES to all! So important. If I forgot any of these at home I'd surely be spending the high price tag to grab them. That's how serious it is. Haha
  • CourtneyLynne

These are some great tips! I've been flying with my daughter since she was one month old! People think I'm nuts but I'm constantly telling them if you have enough snacks and entertainment it's easy peasy! Rather fly than drive!
  • Fariha N.

You definitely don't want to be the parent of the cranky kid on the plane! Especially on a long flight. These are wonderful tips.

These sounds like great items to take on a play with young children. I had never traveled on a plane with my kids when they were little. but the tablet and the books would be something I would have brought. The snacks would be one too. Thanks for sharing.

I just flew and had very well behaved children on the flight! They were pros at traveling. ;) Storybooks and headphones were their friends.
