As we all know, preparing dinner and having it ready on the table every night isn’t easy. Especially when there is always something going on, shopping to be done -and not to mention the clean up afterwards. Hey, we do it right but that doesn’t mean it should take hours of your time each day to get it all done either.
Let’s face it, I believe we like to think we can handle it all but sometimes a change in our routine might be a good thing right?
Here are five tips that will save you time in the kitchen.
Keeping your Pantry Stocked
There have been numerous times that I have run out of canned goods including rice and even pasta. I believe stocking up on these essentials are very important when saving time in the kitchen.
Another great way to keep things stocked in your kitchen is making a check list. I know many of us write down our grocery list but if you’re anything like me, I always find a way to leave it at home. So preparing a checklist is always helpful.

Stock up your Freezer
When you see deals on bread, meats, and butter, now is a great time to store them in the freezer. My tips are easy. When purchasing meat, take out the meat from the butcher packaging then store them back into freezer bags. This way, it gives you plenty of options when planning dinner which saves you multiple trips to the grocery store -plus saves you money for future meals and who doesn’t like to do that.
*Another great tip is when you’re freezing leftovers or cooked hot foods. Make sure that you allow your food to cool down before storing. Two things might happen if you do. One being your food could become spoiled and the other is because when you place your foods inside your freezer the temperature will rise which could make other frozen foods defrost and that honey is a no-no.
Keep Ingredients on Hand
It’s been a learning lesson for this tip. There have been occasions when I’m ready to rock a recipe until I find out that I ran out of an ingredient or spice needed. It’s so important to make sure that you have all ingredients on hand. So before you start dicing up those tomatoes for that perfect sauce, make sure you have those delicious herbs and spices handy. When you have everything you need, cooking is stress-free and more enjoyable.
You can save so much time around dinner if you start preparing earlier. Take it from this mom of four, that is always on the go, It makes a world of difference. Prepping ingredients earlier in the morning or hours before, makes preparing dinner done in a flash. Save time with keeping your foods refrigerated in resealable plastic bags, in jars with tight fitting lids. They will keep your foods crispier and seal out any odors from onions, garlic or cheeses.
Whistle While You Cook
You have dishes on top of dishes. -And, you still have more food to make. Now, what?
I found it so helpful to clean while I’m still preparing and cooking dinner. It’s so handy to keep a small grocery store or trash bag nearby for wrappers or food scraps. I tend to wash my pans or soak them while cooking because I honestly know that once dinner is done everyone runs. So, to make it easier, I wash as I go.
