Spooky Zombie Cupcakes

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays by far. My children and I get so excited come October. Hallows’ Eve has always been a fun night for us. We embrace it all! Ever since my children were little we host a Halloween party at our house. The whole family including friends and neighbors would dress up and join us. When I say we go all out, I mean it.

Hosting a party doesn’t take much time at all. Well, maybe you need some creativity but between all the ghoulish meals, snacks and desserts our guests never complain. You see, every year when we host our annual Halloween party, we also have a haunted house at our home. Call it crazy, call it insane but yup it’s a whole lot of fun for everyone. When our guests arrive, they actually walk through a maze in order to get into the party room. (Haha)  Ok I will admit, the living room and kitchen is what we call the party room -And what’s a party without opening up your kitchen for food right?

Any-hoo, we do try to make the haunted house friendly for everyone to walk through but there is a few scare zones that have those crazy looking zombies just waiting for someone to pass by. It’s all in good fun and is something that we like doing.

One of my recipes that I enjoy making for Halloween parties is my Spooky Zombie Cupcakes. To be honest, they’re not a bit scary but they seem to get the kids attention.  My kids love when I place OREO crumbles on top to resemble dirt and when they see the gummy zombie hand coming out of the cupcakes, their eyes light up! These cupcakes are so moist to begin with but when you add OREO’s as a topping, your guests will be crawling for a taste.

This is such a fun and easy recipe for you to make for your own Halloween celebration or party this month. October has already been a pretty busy month for us. My children have costume parties to attend and not to mention, their school is having a huge Halloween bash so this is the perfect recipe that you could use all month long. For this recipe, I jetted off to my local  Walmart  to pick up a few bottles of orange Fanta and the Spooky Edition 30 pack of OREO’s. These Glow-In-The-Dark Trick or Treat Packs are also the perfect size to hand out on Halloween night.

Is it just me or does everything taste better with OREO cookies? Oh my heavens, grab a glass of milk and start dipping I’d say. Oh yes, those late night cravings have got me a few times too! So, as I was day dreaming about my favorite cookie I thought to myself how awesome it would be to use orange Fanta in my Spooky Zombie Cupcake recipe. I’ve always loved orange Fanta and it totally gets you in the Halloween mood.

If you haven’t notice yet, (ha-ha) I love to bake and create recipes. I like recipes that are simple to make which saves me time in the kitchen. Baking cupcakes with Fanta is full of enjoyment. You can take an ordinary cupcake recipe and turn it into a delicious treat. By adding only two cups of Fanta, blending your cupcake mixture has never been this much fun.  My kids get the biggest giggle watching the cake mixture fizz up. After a few minutes of stirring and blending together, your ready to roll!

Making OREO tombstones are snap to make. Just pull apart each OREO then remove the filling. I found it was pretty easy to remove the filling but feel free to leave it on if you desire. Start by cutting off each side vertically of the OREO cookie. Any remanding pieces that are left just toss them into your blender when your making your OREO cookie crumbles for the topping.

Look how amazing these Spooky Zombie Cupcakes are. This is what you call a slice of heaven! So moist and their so pleasing to the palate.  By adding OREO cookie crumbles on top of these Spooky Zombie Cupcakes you immerse in the Halloween season and spirit.

These Spooky Zombie Fanta Cupcakes topped with OREO crumbles will be a sure hit for your Halloween party. Since they’re kid friendly, children will gobble these right up. Oh and the adults will too! One hint of advice, make extras. If your guests are anything like mine, they will ask for seconds.  These tasty treats will be the first to go. I assure you!

I love the idea of using Fanta soda in the cupcakes. I have never seen the zombie gummy hands but now I must find them. You could have all kinds of fun with them.

Oreo cookies are fantastic by themselves, but I'm amazed at how many delicious desserts can be made with them. I would love to serve those zombie cupcakes the next time I have people over.

Can't go wrong with Oreos for anything. I just haven't gotten into the whole zombie thing but know it's big. Very cute.
