Being a mother to four wonderful and bright children is something that I take pride in. It was when I was 23 years old when I first found out that I was pregnant and carrying twins. Thinking back then, I was in shock. Not one baby but two! I will honestly say, I was nervous about being a first time mom and was scared for what the future held for my body.
Being pregnant with multiples caused my body to change rapidly. It was clearly visible that I was pregnant as my tummy just enlarged daily. During that time I was preparing for my pregnancy with the twins, and their arrival. I endured many tests and ultrasounds. It seem to me that I was in and out of the doctor’s offices and weekly visits to the hospital. I mean two babies weighting each at 7lbs, 5oz and 6lbs, 7oz was no walk in the park.
Back in 1996, it was pretty rare to see twins conceived naturally but here I was pushing a double stroller through the mall and getting stopped then asked if my babies were twins.
It was a proud moment of being a mom of these two beautiful fraternal twin boys. As years passed, doing for two at the same time became my routine. I couldn’t do for one and not the other. You can only imagine, I had double of everything.
It was when I was 32 years old when I found out that I was pregnant again. Feeling after taking care of the twins for 9 years I was blessed to be a mother once again. This pregnancy was quite different from the twins since this was a single birth although, I still had many test because of my age. One of things that I remember was how uncomfortable I was specially walking around and having those urges to go to the bathroom. I’m guessing that my son loved pushing my bladder around.
In 2009, I found out that I was pregnant and carrying my daughter. I couldn’t believe at the age of 35 years old I was about to do it all over again. But I was super happy for this new edition to arrive.
Many things have changed for me since 1996 which includes those continuous bladder control issues. At first, I thought it was because of being pregnant during those times but I noticed over these years, my bladder has become weak and at times I have no control. There has been plenty of times that I woken up from sleeping just to run to the bathroom before my bladder let’s go.
I would never of thought at the age of 40, I would have incontinence problems but I do.
Being very active with my children is easy living here in Florida because it lets us be more proactive outdoors. Our weather is beautiful during all seasons here so we are a family that tends to be on the go quite often.
For me, being prepared for those long days outdoors such as cheering my children on from their sporting events, to walking around theme parks, exercising or even shopping, I must now pay close attention to where the closest bathroom might be because I never know when I might need to make a dash right away. Usually my days consist of volunteering at my children’s school, picking up my son from college and taking my dog for a walk.
It can be quite embarrassing since my bladder sometimes feels like a kid again especially one that can’t hold their bladder. Needless to say, that is why I believe in Depend.
I feel relieved knowing that I am not the only one at my age who experiences bladder problems. Did you know that Over 51 million American women experience bladder leakage? That’s 1 in 3 American women have the same common problems as I do.
In support of the millions of women who may need a different kind of underwear just like me, the Depend brand is introducing Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs, a new moderate-absorbency brief featuring a thin design for complete comfort and the trusted protection of the Depend brand. Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs have a lower rise for an underwear-like look, fit and feel. As a category first, the product is available in black and beige colors. I found that wearing them provides support, comfort and most of all security for those days that I have bladder leakage.
When wearing the Silhouette Active Fit Briefs, they feature a cloth-like fabric that is smooth under clothes which is great when walking or exercising. They feel just like everyday underwear to me. A comfortable fit that is not to snug around my legs and fits firmly against my body.
One of things that I am always nervous about when wearing briefs is can other people notice a bulge or view that I am wearing something different under my garments and that answer is no. Believe it or not, I feel super confident and still live an active lifestyle with my kids when wearing them.
As for continuing my active lifestyle, I stay healthy by eating more fruits and veggies special those who give me more energy like Apples, Oranges and Spinach. I have noticed when I have a spinach salad for lunch, I have tons of energy which helps with the afternoon slump. Exercising daily is also important to your body even if it’s a daily walk. So get out there and breath that fresh air.
Prior to relocating in Florida, I spent many years cheering on family and friends as they ran passed me during the Boston Marathon. Even til this day, I still watch it live on television. What a thrill it was to see the Boston Marathon up close and personal. These amazing ladies, full of ambition, just trying to make it across the finish line. I would see women of all ages, stood proudly as they ran, jogged and even walked. Having their running number close to their heart, as they sweat through miles and miles of roads is such an inspiration to many. There motivation and determination was shown through their active lifestyles.
I remember, having an opportunity to talk to a friend who ran in the Boston Marathon in 2009. I asked her how do you prepare for something so large and how do you stay active enough for this event. My friend being 42 years old at the time of the race said I exercise daily which includes my daily runs and eat healthy. I was so humbled and proud of what she accomplished in a short amount of time.
Just because your body has changed doesn’t mean your life has too. Stay active, be proud of the woman and mom that you are today.
I do want to point out that, The Depend brand is entering year two of Underwareness. I am sure you have heard about it on social media but if you haven’t, It’s a social movement and charitable cause to break down the bladder leakage stigma. As part of Underwareness, the Depend brand encourages people to show their support for women with bladder leakage. For every photo and video shared using #Underwareness, the Depend brand will donate $1, up to $3 million, through 2016 to fund charities that advance the research and education of bladder leakage.
I don’t know about you but that is the best news I’ve heard in a long time and not only does that prove how generous Depend is to this cause, but provides reassurance how deeply these concerns are.
You can join the movement and request a free sample of the New Depend Silhouette Fit Briefs at www.Underwareness.com.
Between me and you, we can show the world that wearing a different kind of underwear is no big deal.
CVS Health is a place I turned to for getting my personal needs. Did you know that millions of people count on CVS to guide them to a better heath.
