Zoku: Ice Cream Maker

Spread the love

ZOKU LOGO“Zoku is known for our housewares. But really, we’re in the thinking business. We put the fun in functional with innovative, easy-to-use, well-designed products. Zoku means family in Japanese. The definition goes beyond creating family memories around our products, it speaks to our culture. Our office—which we designed from scratch—is our playground.”

“Located in the heart of Hoboken, New Jersey, our space is where creativity runs wild, risks are encouraged, and possibilities are infinite. We’re inspired by the world around us, getting our hands dirty with prototypes and learning by collaborating, building, tasting, and exploring. Our large test kitchen is the backdrop of tasting new recipes, bouncing ideas back and forth, and often where we all gather to eat our lunches.”

Since design is the heart of everything they do, many of their collections can be seen at The Henry Ford, the Chicago Athenaeum Museum for Architecture and Design. They have been recognized by the Industrial Designer’s Society of America as an IDEA finalist,  a Silver and Bronze recipient, a GOOD Design Award, mentions on Wired.com, and a National Parenting Seal of Approval.

Zoku has such a wide selection of design products that can be found in more than 30 countries around the world.

The ice cream maker is a great product to have in your home. I know for myself and my family icecream is a favorite dessert that we enjoy. In fact, it’s a food that I can’t keep enough of. I guess it’s a sweet tooth for all of us. With so many favors now available it’s hard to pick a favorite.

I think we can all agree that vanilla is one of our top choices for icecream. It truly does go well with any sundae combinations that you make.

Zoku Ice Cream Maker allows you to make your very own ice cream in as little as 10 minutes and I am going to tell you how.

The ice cream maker includes one stainless steel bowl, one protective sleeve and one spoon. With three easy to do steps you surely will be on your way in making delicious icecream.

ZOKUICECREAM

As directed, you must freeze your stainless steel bowl overnight. It’s important to allow this to happen since you need that bowl to remain cold.

Next you will mix your recipe together. Zoku offers great recipes in the manual like Peach Ice Cream, Lemon Sorbet and also more. I decided to use their Vanilla Ice Cream recipe for this review.

In the recipe, you will need :

1 1/2 cup of whole milk

2/3 cup of granulated sugar

1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups of heavy cream

1/4 kosher salt

Directions: Whisk together the milk, cream, sugar, vanilla and salt for three minutes or until the sugar is dissolved. Stir well before using. Chill to 40 degree Fahrenheit (4.4C) then pour 5oz into the Zoku Ice Cream Maker. You must also continue to follow the directions of the manual.

I found using the spoon included was quite helpful and is the key in making this icecream. The more I scrapped the bowl, the more it got thicker.

You can actually make ice cream in two different ways. For soft serve ice cream, it will take about 10 minutes to complete. If your looking for hard ice cream then placing your ice cream maker back in the freezer would be ideal for you. It’s recommended that you do so for an additional 10-20 minutes.

Over all, I think it’s great to have and my children really enjoyed taking part in making their very own ice cream. The directions were easy to follow along to and the taste was even better.

The Zoku Ice Cream Maker retails for $25.99.
